This work examined the impact of ICT in enhancing agricultural productivity in Nigeria especially as it concerns rural communities. Specifically, the study ascertained the types of ICTs available to the farmers in the rural areas in Enugu State, and the extent to which these ICT tools have been perceived to be effective in information dissemination to rural farmers. In our methodology, data were collected from primary and secondary sources. The three agricultural zones in Enugu State, namely; Enugu North, Enugu East and Enugu West, were covered. Interview schedules were used to collect data from a total of 120 respondents. In the measurement of variables, focus was drawn on respondents’ sex, age, marital status, educational qualification, and years of farming experience, among others. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation were adopted to analyze the data. From the study, 38% of the respondents were 40 – 49 years (mean age was 46). A majority (67 %) of the respondents were males, 97.3 % of them were married, and 23.3% had secondary school education (WASC) as their highest educational qualification. The mean farming experience was 21 years, while most respondents (56.3 %) had farming as their primary occupation. The findings also revealed that the majority of the farmers were aware of radio, television, mobile phones and video CD players, while a few others were aware of other ICT tools. Most of these ICT tools were not available to farmers; however, many had radio, television, mobile phones and video CD players. In addition, these ICT tools were perceived to be very effective in obtaining information and communicating effectively among the farmers. Therefore government at all levels should re-orient its policies and programmes towards harnessing the potential of ICT tools in order to contribute meaningfully to the development of the agricultural sector.
