| Constraints to Pap Processing, and Safety Practices in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria

| The constraints to pap processing, and safety practices in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria were examined. Five (5) respondents were randomly selected from each of ten (10) villages
 in the local government making a total of fifty (50) respondents that constituted the sample for this
 study. Data were collected through the use of a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed with
 descriptive statistic, and presented as simple percentages and means. The socioeconomic characteristics
 of the respondents revealed that majority of the pap processors were females (90%) and had a mean age
 of 20 years. As much as 80% of the respondents had formal education. The result also showed that
 majority of the respondents carried out hygiene practices that are needed in pap processing. Inadequate
 training/education, laziness and lack of equipment (mean = 3.60, 3.04, 2.94 respectively) were the three
 most serious constraints faced by the pap processors. Also the majority of respondents agreed that the
 major benefits derived from pap were that is good for people with high blood pressure (mean=4.02),
 good for nursing mothers (mean=3.66), babies (mean=3.64), is a raw and natural (mean=3.54) among
 others. It was recommended that farmers should be trained on how to better process pap and should be
 encouraged to keep on practicing good hygiene in the study area.
