| The study focused on the determinants of the effects of malaria on smallholder oil palm farmers’ productivity in Edo State. A multi-stage sampling technique was adopted to collect a random sample size of 150 respondents that was used for the analysis. Data collected were analyzed/described with descriptive statistics such as the frequencies and percentages for the socioeconomic characteristics, and regression to determine the effects of malaria on the farmers’ productivity. The result showed that the majority (73%) of the respondents were in their old age, with 87% of them married. They also cultivated less than 4 hectares, with 70% of them having an annual income of below 200,000 Nigerian Naira. The regression result revealed that malaria had negative and significant effects on marital status at 1%, farm experience, household size, and annual income at 10% level while educational level and extension contacts had positive and significant effects at 10% level. It was recommended that the farmers should be more educated, and more awareness should be created by extension/health agents to enhance the use of biotechnological tools/aids/innovations to control, adopt, and adapt in malaria-dominated areas to increase productivity. | |
