ABSTRACT
The use of fossil fuels as energy sources has become unsustainable because of rapid industrialization, growth in human population, accumulation of greenhouse gases and fossil depletion over the years. The growing need in search of alternative energy source has become paramount. Microalgae have recently become a potential source for the production of advanced bio-fuels. According to researchers, while the production of fossil fuel is on the decline, biodiesel demand is on the increase. The recent production of biodiesel using microalgae biomass therefore appears to be a viable option to fossil fuel depletion. This paper is a brief review of the potential of microalgae for the improvement and production of biodiesel using waste from aquaculture practices. |
